The Empire State Aerosciences Museum, Scotia, NY

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the The Empire State Aerosciences Museum in Scotia, NY (Scotia, NY is in Schenectady County in the Capital Region of New York State).

My wife Jennifer and I have visited the Albany area several times now but I had never gotten over to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum until now.

And what’s better than visiting an aircraft and flight museum?  Visiting it with a friend who has the same many of the interests – including aviation and photography.

Erik, owner of the Solar Gravity blog, suggested this museum trip and we spent an interesting couple of hours looking around and taking photos of the exhibits and aircrafts at this museum.

You can find some brilliant shots that he took with his camera and his Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens (which I had previously reviewed here) on his SolarGravity.com blog.  Check it out.

I really liked this museum (or any museum for that matter), though it’s unfortunate that they don’t have more money available for upkeep on some of the displays, some were in need of a dusting or a little maintenance or upgrade.

But despite that it’s well worth visiting, even if you aren’t that interested in aircraft.  If you are interested in aviation you are especially going to have a ball here.  There’s models, static displays, demonstration exhibits, photos, descriptions and lots of history, and of course plenty of real aircraft that you can get up close and personal with.  Great for aviation enthusiasts, and kids too.

As time goes on various displays are swapped with other museums so if you have went before you might see some new things occasionally.  They also are sorely in need of volunteers.

Below you will find a few of the photos I took.  I had a difficult time deciding exactly which photos to post as I would have liked to post them all but there are way too many!  So go and check it out yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

I am a web developer and fitness geek, but I have a heck of a lot of differing interests.  Biking, the Internet, technology, movies, fitness, running and walking and hiking, science fiction, photography, graphics, WordPress, flying and aircrafts, pets and animals, history, and much more.  I like to stay very fit but I don’t mind sitting at my computer for work and play either.  I live in upstate New York (that’s far from New York City) in a rural area, yet close to a small city, with my beautiful awesome wife, a bunch of beloved cats and dogs and chickens in a very old multi-century house.
